Chase Coleman III worked at Julian Robertson's Tiger Management before launching Tiger Global in 2001 at age 25. He built it into one of the most successful tech-focused investment firms by combining deep growth investing with aggressive private market bets. Tiger Global became famous for its 'spray and pray' venture approach — writing hundreds of checks into startups at rapid speed. The public equity side consistently outperformed, with Coleman making early bets on Facebook, LinkedIn, Spotify, and JD.com. However, the 2022 tech selloff was brutal — Tiger Global's venture fund lost 50%+ and the public fund dropped significantly. Coleman has been rebuilding since.
